The bands that we see on the birds have a number on them. An organization tracks these birds using those numbers. One of my viewers pointed it out to me. If you view this photo in larger version, you can even read the number on it. Then you can report that number at the following site http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/. This band reads Y09.
